Start with something you actually say. Tap a word, tap a colour to name it, and watch the sentence pattern appear underneath — no rush, and nothing here is a test.
Before you type your own sentence: this page opens with an example already filled in ("I gave him the book.") all the way through Steps 1 to 4 below. Teacher and student, look through all four steps first and see how the example works — the colours, the written correction, the sentence pattern, and the practice section — so you both know what to do. When you're ready, go to Step 1 and tap "New sentence" to clear the example and start with your own words.
Colour key
Tap a colour, then tap a word below to give it that label.
1. Type Your Sentence
Say a sentence out loud, then type it in the box just as you normally say it. Don't worry about grammar right now — write it exactly the way it comes out. Then tap "Split into words," tap a colour from the word form list above, and tap the matching word below — do this for every word. When you're done, tell your teacher and together you will look for mistakes and make any corrections.
This is just an example, not something you typed — tap "New sentence" to start with your own words.
Tap a colour above, then tap a word to tag it. Tap a tagged word again to change its colour. Most people who grow up speaking English couldn’t tell you these labels either — they just use them. Naming them is something extra, not something you’re behind on. Go at whatever pace feels right today.
2. Spoken vs. written
Look at your sentence above. Is a small word missing? Is anything spelled wrong? Does it need a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence or a period at the end? Tap the + to add a word, tap a word to fix it, or tap the × to take one out. When you think it's ready, tell your teacher and together you will look for mistakes and make any corrections.
3. Now, the sentence pattern
Look at each word in your written sentence. Tap a job from the list above (like Subject or Verb), then tap the matching word below — do this for every word that has a job. When you're done, tell your teacher and together you will look for mistakes and make any corrections.
4. Practice the Order and Pattern
Tap the shuffled words below to put them back in order, then tap "Check order" to see if you got it right. You can also label each word or phrase the same way you did in Step 3: tap a job below, then tap a word above. Try again as many times as you like — this one checks itself, no teacher needed for the order.
